I love music. All music from different “genres” and different cultures. On YouTube today we are seeing DJs that are up and coming artists or simply content creators who love to share their love of music. Since YT doesn’t support direct monetization for DJ created content – it creates this unique moment in time where there is a RICH selection of DJ mixes that really feel like they are ambitiously being created for the LOVE of music.
While you can’t make money on YouTube directly with mixes, (because it won’t monetize videos with claimed music content ID) – it’s the perfect platform for sharing DJ mixes online, growing an audience, and promoting your other products. As a YouTube viewer – the non monetization aspect means that you typically get to enjoy hours of content and rarely see advertisements!
And sure there may be some creators who are purely motivated to promote this or that – but if they can deliver on great music mixes – well then that’s fair. Some efforts come off as a bit laughable with channels filled with female DJs that are (let’s just say it) attractive and with little more to offer than the challenge of furiously mixing the beats while keeping their outfits in tact (lol). But there are MANY female DJs that are just damned talented (Mona Lee or Carla Batukizer are two random favorite examples) and some take the approach of being somewhat unseen save for a quick edit of their jamming. Others take an approach of “throwing a party” that you can participate in or at least have those fine beats playing in the background of your own daily efforts of fun, relaxation, or even work or study. Whatever the strategy – if the music speaks to you – it’s all part of the YouTube Game.
What’s really amazing is that this is a complete International phenomenon. You have DJs (and wannabe DJs) from all over the world – Philippines (no duh), Netherlands, France, Korea, Brazil, South Africa, Thailand (who knew?) – and yes of course the United States – all sharing their personal interpretations, journey, and love of music. So YES on the table to your right you will see the TOP YT DJ Channels based on stats like subscribers and video view time (total view duration in hours – I can’t even mentally visualize what 16.1 Billion hours is – nearly 2K years?).- but I want to FEATURE in this article some of my FAVORITE lesser known channels that are simply ROCKING IT and should definitely be checked out!
